As the title of this post states, The Gourmet Belle’s latest tasting event was thematically dubbed, “Last of the Summer Wine” – a somewhat cheesy moniker, but one to match my romantic vision of everyone casually sipping on crisp and refreshing wines while looking out over the Brisbane river on a sultry tropical evening.
Unfortunately, during the weeks leading up to the occasion, this lovely vision was replaced with much angst and the drafting of an updated event invitation, which kinda read a little something like this:
“Join me for the last
of the summer wine…before we’re all washed away into the Pacific Ocean (inflatable dinghy attached)”.
Needless to say, Brisbane (and much of Queensland) has been a little wet lately. Ok, a lot wet. And this didn’t bode well for a (partially) al fresco, ‘summery’ wine tasting.
Mercifully, however, the vinous gods managed to persuade the rain gods to take some time out last night (27 Feb) and we were ultimately afforded a more conducive setting for our tasting of boutique and small production wines.
